Last Leilani Lodge Starter For James Cummings

Savabeel filly Savvan will be the final starter for James Cummings from his Randwick stable before he takes up the role of head for Godolphin in Australia on July 8.

Cummings has set Savvan for Saturday’s $125,000 Sunshine Coast Guineas (1600m) at the Gold Coast.

Savvan won over 1550m at Canterbury in April but has since been unplaced in three stakes races in Queensland.

Cummings is winding down his Leilani Lodge stable at Randwick before he hands the keys over to his father Anthony Cummings and brother Edwards.

He is going out on a high after winning last Saturday G3 WJ Healy Stakes at Doomben with quality sprinter Burning Passion.

Burning Passion, raced by a Darby Racing syndicate, will be transferred to rising trainer Mark Newnham due to the Cummings move to Godolphin.

Anthony and Edward Cummings will keep the famous Leilani Lodge stable established by Bart Cummings in the 1970s in the Cummings family after the ATC approved a shuffle of Randwick stables in the wake of the move by James Cummings to the Godolphin headquarters at Warwick Farm.

John O’Shea, who resigned as Godolphin’s head trainer last month, will return to Randwick after being granted the High Street stables now occupied by Anthony and Edward Cummings.
