Lees Left With One For Sandown

Yulong Xingsheng will be the final Melbourne carnival starter for the Kris Lees stable at Sandown on Saturday.

Lees confirmed the three-year-old filly will contest the Listed Twilight Glow Stakes (1400m) against her own sex.

Kerrin McEvoy, who rode Yulong Xingsheng Horseform at Flemington during Melbourne Cup week, retains the mount.

The Twilight Glow is run at set weights and penalties, and Yulong Xingsheng has 55kg, 2.5kg less than topweight Split Lip.

At her only Melbourne start this spring Yulong Xingsheng finished an excellent fourth to Our Crown Witness in the Listed Lexus Hybrid Plate (1400m) at Flemington last Tuesday.

Previously, she ran second to Torvill in the Listed Reginald Allen Quality (1400m) at Randwick on October 14, when McEvoy also was aboard.

Lees also nominated last start Randwick winner Doukhan Horseform for the Listed Sandown Cup (3200m) on Saturday but has decided to keep him at home.

His next start will be at Canterbury on November 22 in a Benchmark 75 Handicap over 2700m.

Stablemates Clearly Innocent and Sense Of Occasion will have short breaks before being aimed at the Sydney autumn carnival.

Clearly Innocent Horseform was an excellent fifth to Australia’s best sprinter Redzel in last Saturday’s $1 million Darley Classic (1200m).

“His closing sectionals were great and, to be fair, the 1200m is really short of his best,” Lees said.

“He will follow a similar autumn preparation to what Le Romain did earlier this year and we might even give him a shot at the Doncaster Mile at Randwick if he shows that he might manage the 1600m.

“Sense Of Occasion’s closing sectionals in the Emirates Stakes also were good. He will have a short break, and we will also target suitable autumn races with him.”

Doomben Cup winner Sense Of Occasion Horseform finished ninth to Tosen Stardom in the $2 million Emirates Stakes (2000m).

Danish Twist Horseform is spelling, whilst Zestful Horseform and Powerline Horseform have returned home.

Zestful may run next in the Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on December 2.
