Trainer Anthony Freedman has set his sights on wining a sixth Group One race this season after Santa Ana Lane’s storming finish to swamp his rivals in the $1 million Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on Saturday.

Stablemate Mr Sneaky Horseform also enhanced his Stradbroke claims when he finished third in Saturday’s G3 BRC Sprint over the Stradbroke distance of 1350m at Doomben on Saturday.

Santa Ana Lane Horseform is now a dual G1 winner, having beaten Mr Sneaky into second place when the pair filled the quinella in the Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield in the spring.

Freedman, one third of the hugely successful family stable he established with his brothers Lee and Richard in the 1980s, is enjoying his best season since he was left to run his own team with five G1 seasons thanks to his star filly Shoals Horseform and Santa Ana Lane.

The only snag in his Stradbroke plan for Santa Ana Lane is getting the sprinter on a flight to Brisbane from Melbourne.

"We're going to try and get him on a flight, which is not easy. Hopefully that'll happen in the next week,” Freedman said.

The travelling should not worry Santa Ana Lane as he has already raced in Perth, Adelaide, Sydney and Queensland in his 26-start career.

Freedman said he was prepared to chase the big prizemoney in the Stradbroke even though he would prefer to see the race being run over its traditional 1400m course on the bigger Eagle Farm track that remains closed.

Freedman said his Japanese import Ambitious may bypass the G2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) on June 9 despite his third in Saturday’s G1 Doomben Cup (2000m).

"I don't think Doomben was the track for him," Freedman said.

"We're going to think about whether we run him in the Brisbane Cup. I think Ambitious Horseform could be an ideal Caulfield Cup horse.”
