Hobart: Race 8 @ 5:08pm

ANDREA MANTEGNA impressed in Adelaide last time. Waited to make his move and took the race over very quickly when he was asked to do so. Dominant and the rating stacks up very strongly here. Think he can go on with it and win again. PRETTY PUNK is racing really well with her form on the mainland making for good reading here. Will press forward into a good spot and looks sure to take stopping. FASTNET DRAGON is the top pick of the locals having won the lead up nicely. Closed strongly there. This can suit. SELECTIONS: Backing #7 Andrea Mantegna from #2 and #4.

Newcastle: Race 3 @ 2.30pm

TAWFIQ BOY ran second on resuming at Wyong three weeks ago. Will be fitter for the run and has won second up in the past. Can go one better here. MISSYBEEL resumes. Showed promise during her maiden campaign which was wrapped up with a victory at Wyong. JEXERLENT has a fitness edge over most here. Keep safe. SELECTIONS: #1 Tawfiq Boy for the win from #6 and #5.

Sunshine Coast: Race 3 @ 2:39pm (AEDT)

SUPERBEE ran favourite at this trip resuming but got back off the tricky gate and was caught wide later. Three winners have come out of that and he’ll certainly be fitter and looks ready to break a winning drought. SHELTER LADY has just missed the last two (this venue) as favourite and keeps improving. Will go close keeping the claim. TYCOON FLUTTER continues to race well and gets another chance off a better gate. BALBOA ROCKS is up to this and has trialled well since the two plain runs. Gets Byrne for the apprentice and looks for a stronger effort. SELECTIONS: Backing #4 Superbee if the money comes from #5 and #2.

Colac: Race 5 @ 3:35pm

FILLE DE CHARLIE was a big Maiden winner at the Valley and has been solid since in better company than this. Peaking and will take beating racing at the front end. KATHY'S SPIRIT disappointed in stronger at Caulfield off the win this grade on the heavy. Fitter now and the Weir galloper can bounce. TWILIGHT MANEUVER draws low with a 3kg claim and is fast. Won second-up and can make the photo. SELECTIONS: #12 Fille De Charlie finds the right race from #3 and #1.

Naracoorte: Race 7 @ 5:00pm (AEDT)

COSTA LANTE was wide but too good winning last start running her best race and she can salute again if she holds that figure. HASTA LA THOMAS was better last time and like the above appreciates the venue. He’s always a chance. ATHOS was just beaten last start by Costa Lante and is right in the mix again. EVENMOREACTION is as tough as old boots and will get every opportunity with Cahill riding from the rail. BILLET DOUX is the early favourite coming off city contests but does a few things wrong. Is certainly a winning hope at best. SELECTIONS: Sticking with the local #6 Costa Lante in the Cup from #4 and #7.

R8 HOBART 11 February 2018
Sky Racing Hobart Cup , 2400m
Race Synopsis: South Australian-trained mare Pretty Punk is now the winner of three of her last four starts and she put up a good staying effort in scoring here. She went forward and after being outside the leader, she remained close to the pace after some mid-race moves at 800m and then improved (wide) nearing the home turn. She went deeper on straightening (looking for better going) hit the front at the 100m and then went on to win well. The Darren Weir-trained Andrea Mantegna was handily placed in third spot, was shuffled deeper from the 800m, challenged (wide) at the home turn and kept battling on solidly to take second. Fastnet Dragon was near the rear, improved (wide with cover) from the 800m and then kept running on solidly, closest to the outside rail, to take third.
