The Darren Beadman-trained import is flying this campaign having won each of his three starts, the latest when making all in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast a fortnight ago.

It’s Somewhat is a $4.00 favourite for Saturday’s Group 1 feature event at Doomben where he has drawn barrier 6.

Success on Saturday would see It’s Somewhat claim the Hollindale Stakes – Doomben Cup double and provide Darren Beadman with his first Group 1 victory as a trainer.

A win would also see It’s Somewhat join popular champions such as Rough Habit and Might And Power to have achieved the Hollindale Stakes – Doomben Cup double.

It’s Somewhat’s stiffest opposition looks to come in the form of promising German import Articus Horseform ($4.60) who tasted his first success on Australian soil when winning at Flemington a fortnight ago.

Kenedna

The Group 2 Doomben Roses boasts a clash of Sydney’s current leading stable (Chris Waller) and Melbourne’s present top stable (Darren Weir).

Chris Waller’s last start winner Dawn Wall Horseform and Weir’s Schweppes Oaks runner up Kenedna Horseform are presently vying for favouritism, both at $3.60.

While Weir is represented only by Kenedna, Waller will also saddle up double figure chances Oklahoma Girl Horseform ($10.00) and Invincibella Horseform ($12.00).

A strong field of sprinters rounds out proceedings at Doomben on Saturday in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1350m).

Splurge

New Zealand raider Splurge Horseform holds favouritism ($5.00) as he looks to make it four straight wins while Darren Weir saddles up second elect Ulmann Horseform $6.00 who has drawn barrier 2.

Darren Beadman fronts up in the BRC Sprint with a dual-pronged attack in the form of Federal Horseform $7.50 and Handfast Horseform $9.50.

Hardy Brothers Doomben Cup , 2000m
Race Synopsis: The Kris Lees-trained gelding Sense Of Occasion, winner of the Villiers Stakes (Gr 2, 1600m) at Randwick in December, has continued to race in really good form this preparation, following two placings in Group One class to take out his first win at that level here. He settled well back from his wide barrier (15), improved (deep) from the 600m and then came with a strong late run (wide out) to score comfortably at the post, yet again showing his liking for affected going. Former WA-trained Star Exhibit raced in sixth place, improved nicely (between runners) at the 600m, took the lead (wide out) at the 200m and then fought gamely for a very good second. Rudy raced in fourth place on the rails, was under riding nearing the home turn and responded to challenge at the 200m. He then kept fighting on well for a good third. Amelie’s Star was back in 11th place (on the rails), got along the inner (under riding) rounding the home turn to challenge at the 200m before battling on well for a sound (1.7 lengths) fourth. The favourite It’s Somewhat disappointed. He raced outside the leader (Auvray) until into the home straight before finishing (7.1 lengths) ninth.
