Early Mail and Blackbook Update for March 4
Late mail selections and blackbookers for racing on March 4.
RANDWICK March 4
RACE 7 (5) COMIN’ THROUGH: Gets to the Randwick Guineas third up and the obvious impression has been that the plan all along is to have him ready to peak when he got to the mile this preparation. Has lacked sharp race fitness in both runs since resuming but those efforts were more than creditable in the right form races and showed with his impressive Carbine Club win at Flemington in the spring that is his preferred distance. First go in the heavy but take confidence from the fact that he has a win and a placing from his two starts on soft rated tracks.
RACE 8 (3) ALEGRIA: Suspect there is good stable confidence behind this mare following the early decision by Godolphin to scratch stablemate Circular. She boasts excellent wet track credentials, loves Randwick where she has been placed in six of her seven starts and this race looks well within her scope after her resuming third over 1500m at Rosehill behind the classy Antonio Giuseppe. That looks a strong form race going forward and she is well placed returning to her own sex with 55kg.
RACE 9 (6) ASTRONOMOS: One of the standout wet trackers at this meeting with a record of four wins on soft and heavy and two of those were on Heavy 8 and Heavy 9 surfaces. He’s also a terrific Randwick horse with two wins from two starts over this trip. Resumed for new stable with a pleasing fourth over 1600m at this course when he loomed to win before showing he was just short of top condition. He has been gelded since his last campaign and suspect that will also be to his long term benefit.
