RACE 4 (8) BLACK ON GOLD: No surprise that he’s been heavily supported since markets opened after his excellent second at Randwick last Saturday when he closed off strongly behind the classy Interlocuter over 1800m on a soft track. That came 26 days after his strong first-up win over 1600m at Warwick Farm under 59.5kg and points him to making further improvement here as he is favoured by the return to his home course with a 2kg weight drop that gives him a handy advantage over the rest of the field. The big plus for him will be a firmer track providing the rain stays away.

RACE 7 (6) SLOW BURN: Talented mare is well placed to bounce back from her last start third over 1250m at Canterbury when she was forced to work hard from a wide gate in a strong form race and was left a sitting shot in the last 50 metres for those getting easier runs. Added to her excellent record when she was too sharp for her rivals first-up over 1200m at Canterbury and this time she will be favoured by the drop back to 1100m with the advantage of the claim for the in-form apprentice Blaike McDougall that sees her 3kg better off against last start rival In Times Of War. She has the ability to reel off fast closing sectionals and she can only be fitter for the tough run she endured last start.

RACE 8 (9) ZUMEBLINA: Another Waller runner on a quick back up from Randwick last Saturday when she finished gamely for fourth over 1200m under 57kg behind Firsthand after the traffic forced to her make her run in the slower ground. Returns to her home track where she has won four of her five starts and will strip a very fit mare on a firmer track carrying 3.5kg less than last weekend with the advantage of Rachel King’s allowance that I expect will make a telling difference in this class.
