NZ Breakers add duo to NBL list

Former Perth Wildcat Adrian Majstrovich and development player Mika Vukona will join the New Zealand Breakers' squad for the new Australian NBL season.

Former Perth Wildcat Adrian Majstrovich and development player Mika Vukona will join the New Zealand Breakers' squad for the new Australian National Basketball League season.

Vukona has been elevated to the full playing roster after impressive work at the Breakers over the past two years, the club said.

He was included on the final road trip of last season and had continued his form into the New Zealand NBL for the Nelson Giants.

Coach Andrej Lemanis said he was excited about Vukona's potential.

"He is a fantastic athlete, with some of the best results in areas such as strength and standing jump that I have seen," he said.

Vukona's elevation caps off a big week for him after he was also named in the Tall Blacks' first camp of the season.

Majstrovich, a 201cm 100kg forward, spent last season with the Wildcats.

He was the most valuable player in the New Zealand NBL last year and has again been a key member of the Hawke's Bay Hawks during this campaign.

Although born in Turangi, Majstrovich is ineligible for the Tall Blacks, having represented Australia at under-20 level.

Vukona and Majstrovich join Paul Henare, Lindsay Tait, Aaron Olson, Mike Chappell and Ben Pepper as confirmed Breakers signings.

The club said two other players had offers before them, with responses expected over the next few days.

One player who would not be part of the Breakers' roster was big Australian Blake Truslove.

The foot injury that hampered him last season had not responded sufficiently to treatment, the club said.

Truslove would remain with the Breakers working on basketball development and marketing programmes.
