Afghanistan A will replace Australia A in an upcoming one-day series hosted by South Africa.

Australian cricket's loss has been Afghanistan's gain, with the new Test nation jumping at the chance to send players on a development tour of South Africa.

Australia A's tour of the rainbow nation was cancelled this month, unprecedented action prompted by the pay dispute between players and Cricket Australia.

Usman Khawaja and Glenn Maxwell were set to use the first-class section of the trip to shape up for next month's Test tour of Bangladesh.

Travis Head was then set to captain Australia A in a one-day series involving South Africa A and India A.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Monday that Afghanistan A had accepted a late request to replace Australia A in the tri-series that starts next week.

"Afghanistan were deservedly granted full member status at the ICC annual conference last month after showing impressive growth in recent years," CSA chief executive Haroon Lorgat said.

"They are a passionate cricket nation and I expect the Afghanistan A team to compete strongly."
