AUSTRALIA v INDIA DAY 5

Score: India 7(dec)-622, Australia 300 and 0-6.Result: Match drawn. India win series 2-1.

Man of the moment: Indian captain Virat Kohli, for leading his side to their first series win in Australia.

Stat of the day: Australia's average of 25.9 runs per wicket with the bat is their second lowest since the start of the 1980s, with only the horror home series loss to South Africa two seasons ago marginally worse.

Summary: India had the three highest runscorers, with no Australian averaging 40, The visitors scored five centuries, while Australia suffered the indignity of no batsman reaching a ton in a four-Test home series for the first time. Tim Paine's attack was worn down by the extraordinary concentration and resolve of Cheteshwar Pujara. India had two of the three highest wicket takers with paceman Jasprit Bumrah proving an admirable and reliable spearhead. Paceman Pat Cummins and spinner, Nathan Lyon, who bowled 242.1 overs, 85 more than any other bowler in the series, were the best performers for an Australian side that struggled without banned batsmen Steve Smith and David Warner.

Quote of the day: "Through the doom and gloom there's some positives to come out of this period of time. Our group are under no illusions; we've got to keep working really hard and keep improving," Australian captain Tim Paine.
