Australia's Caleb Ewan, riding for Lotto-Soudal, has finished second behind Ireland's Sam Bennett on stage three of the gruelling Paris-Nice race in France.

Australian cyclist Caleb Ewan has claimed a battling second place on the third stage of the Paris-Nice race.

Victorian Ewan, riding for the Lotto-Soudal team, finished second behind Ireland's Sam Bennett (Bora-Hansgrohe), who won on a bunch sprint on the blustery Cepoy to Moulins stretch in 5hrs 16mins 25 seconds.


Fabio Jakobsen (Deceuninck-Quick-Step) finished in third spot.

Jakobsen's fellow Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen (Team Jumbo-Visma) leads overall in 11:47:44 ahead of Poland's Michal Kwiatkowski (Team Sky).

Italy's Matteo Trentin was the highest finisher for Australian team Mitchelton-Scott in 19th place to leave him sixth overall in the general classification with teammate Luka Mezgec, of Slovakia finishing one place back.
