Matthews moves into second in Swiss tour

Australia has had a mixed day in the Tour of Switzerland as stage one winner Rohan Dennis crashed hard, while Michael Matthews moved to second overall.

Australian cyclist Michael Matthews is second overall after the second stage of the Tour of Switzerland.

The 26-year-old Canberran finished the stage of the race, which was taken out by Belgian rider Philippe Gilbert, in 10th position.

While it was a good day for Matthews and Sunweb teammate Tom Dumoulin, who is level with Matthews in the overall classification and fresh from winning the Giro d'Italia, it was a disastrous day for stage one winner Rohan Dennis.

The Australian BMC rider crashed along with a large number of cyclists with 25 kilometres left in the stage.

Dennis was not seriously hurt but the crash cost him a lot of time and he finished the day nearly 10 minutes behind the leaders.
