SNAPSHOT OF A-LEAGUE ROUND NINE:

* THEY SAID IT - "He wants to beat Bobo's record, I'd say." - Sydney FC coach Steve Corica hints at what could be driving star striker Adam Le Fondre, who went three clear in the golden boot after netting both goals in their 2-1 win over Brisbane. He's also three ahead of Bobo at the same stage last season, when he finished with a record 27.

* MAN OF THE ROUND - Perth veteran Fabio Ferriera broke a 23 month-drought with two goals in Perth's 4-1 win over Central Coast.

* STAT THAT MATTERS - Melbourne City's 2-1 win over Western Sydney on New Year's Day was their first road victory against the Wanderers, having never won in their previous nine tries.

* TALKING POINT - Who is prepared to step into the hotseat that is the vacant Brisbane coaching role? It's believed hundreds of applicants have already put their hand up to coach, including Paul Okon and Scott Miller.

* WHAT WAS THAT? - The Glory's win over Central Coast was marred by a laughable 40-minute stoppage because of a snapped goalpost that required Mariners staff to bring portable training goals on both sides of the field.

* UNDER PRESSURE - Western Sydney's famed fanbase is growing increasingly restless after the Wanderers slumped to a listless 2-0 defeat to Melbourne City. The Red and Black Bloc walked out not long into the second half and the players were booed at halftime and fulltime.

* INJURY WORRIES - Brisbane: Avraam Papadopoulos (glute), Stefan Mauk (grion); Newcastle: Glen Moss (leg); Perth: Diego Castro (hamstring), Matthew Spiranovic (hamstring), Alex Grant (foot); Melbourne Victory: Keisuke Honda (rest), Georg Niedermeier (ankle), Raul Baena (hamstring), Nick Ansell (hamstring), James Troisi (knee).

* WHAT'S NEXT? - Newcastle host Brisbane on Wednesday night as part of round 12, and both teams will have to back up for their round 11 fixtures against Melbourne City and Perth respectively. Sydney FC host Central Coast on Friday, while Adelaide meet Wellington and the Wanderers greet Melbourne Victory on Saturday.
