Caceres buzzing for Glory A-League revenge

Melbourne City creative midfielder Anthony Caceres is one of just four survivors from last year's A-League finals campaign.

Melbourne City are on a dual A-League revenge mission in Sunday night's elimination final against Perth.

Creative midfielder Anthony Caceres says City want to put right right last week's 5-4 aberration against Kenny Lowe's side.

And, for the few City players remaining from last year's finals campaign, they want to go one better.

Caceres, Osama Malik, Nick Fitzgerald and captain Bruno Fornaroli - after starting matches in last year's playoffs - are likely to be involved on Sunday night at AAMI Park.

City were knocked out by eventual champions Adelaide United in a semi-final after defeating this year's opponents Perth in their elimination final.

He remembers how City made it past the Glory - a 2-0 defeat with a double from Fornaroli - and wants a repeat this weekend.

"We took the game to Perth, controlled the game and didn't give them any room to breathe," he told AAP.

"That's what we've got to do on Sunday.

"In Adelaide, we didn't reach the same level. We didn't reach our full potential but, this year, we want to rectify that."

Caceres, who sat on the bench for Central Coast's 2013 championship, said he was buzzing about another finals campaign.

The 24-year-old has been used this year in a number of different attacking and midfield roles, as coach Michael Valkanis looks to balance his attacking threats.

Caceres said he wasn't sure what his role would be against Perth but would embrace the challenge whatever it was.

"I'm pushing myself every day to start," he said.

"Timmy Cahill obviously plays an important attacking role and Bruno has immense quality, but I feel I can also play comfortably in any spot in midfield.

"This time of year, everyone is up. It defines your season.

"Whatever my role is - to start or come off the bench - I'll be looking to make an impact."
