Melbourne City striker Adriana Jones has piled misery on winless Western Sydney, scoring an 80th minute goal to complete a 2-1 comeback win.

The Wanderers were on their way to breaking through for their first win of the W-League season when Georgia Yeoman-Dale struck from long range in the 14th minute on Tuesday.

However City hit back through midfielder Tameka Butt, who floated her shot over Wanderers goalkeeper Nicole Simonsen just before halftime at ANZ Stadium.

And just when it appeared the home side would net just their second point of the season, their hearts were broken when Jones found herself one-on-one with Simonsen late in the match.

Jones caught a Wanderers defence napping when she chased through a routine through ball from deep in City's half, and coolly touched past an advancing Simonsen for the winner.

The victory for City entrenches them in fifth spot on the ladder, while the hapless Wanderers have now lost three on the trot and remain anchored to the bottom with a solitary point.

The result also completes the ninth round of the women's competition, which is still led by Melbourne Victory following their 2-1 win over Perth.

In the other two matches, Canberra drew with Brisbane 1-1 and Adelaide beat Newcastle 3-2 to end a three-game winless run and consolidate second spot.
