He has signed a one-year deal to play at AAMI Park, and will commence training on Monday.

George spent seven years in the top tier of Dutch football with Utrecht and NEC.

Then he moved to Azerbaijan's biggest club, Qarabag, winning back-to-back titles before spending time in the Turkish second division.

His signature is subject to a medical on Saturday afternoon.

The versatile winger is being mooted as a replacement for departed title winner Fahid Ben Khalfallah.

He will compete with Mitch Austin, Kosta Barbarouses and Jai Ingham for two winger roles under Muscat.

"Leroy's an impressive player with a strong pedigree, and one we're really happy to have secured," Muscat said on Saturday.

"He's physically very strong, has good speed and can score goals - exactly the type of player we had been chasing.

"I'm really happy with how the squad is coming together, and Leroy's signing adds further depth to what I feel is a balanced and versatile, yet very strong, playing group."

The 30-year-old was born in the South American country of Suriname but grew up in Amsterdam.

Muscat has shed several long-serving players, including several involved in his 2014/15 title-winning side.

Victory were beaten by Sydney FC on penalties in May's grand final.
