Socceroos striker Andrew Nabbout will sit out Sunday's Asian Cup opener against Jordan with a groin injury.

Nabbout picked up the niggle in training on Saturday and has been replaced in Graham Arnold's starting lineup by Jamie Maclaren.

It's understood Nabbout's injury is not that serious and Socceroos staff are confident he'll be fit for the remaining tournament fixtures.

In other selection news Awer Mabil has won the race to be picked ahead of Chris Ikonomidis on the right wing in a front three with Maclaren and left winger Robbie Kruse.

Captain Mark Milligan will start in midfield with Trent Sainsbury and Milos Degenek forming the central defensive pairing.

Celtic star Tom Rogic also starts after being rested for the pre-tournament friendly against Oman in Dubai last weekend.

Sunday's game kicks off at 3pm (2200 AEDT).
