Australian champion Samantha Stosur has pulled out of the Wimbledon with a hand injury, putting her US Open seeding in disarray.

She will be missing Wimbledon to nurse an ongoing stress fracture to her right playing arm which requires time off play.

According to Stosur she was injured at the French Open and has been suffering from a swollen arm throughout and is unable to do much with it at present.


She was of the view that she will not be able to play until August giving her solid nine weeks recovery time.

Stosur reached a classy 4-0 lead at the fourth round of the French Open against Jelena Ostapenko before injuring herself late in the first set.

According to Stosur the injury has presented her with frustrating times as she was playing top tennis and was at the peak of her confidence playing at the French Open.

With Stosur in a race against time to return to play to save her US Open rankings her management confirmed that she will not be participating in Wimbledon this time ending a run of 37 consecutive grand slam appearances.
