Caulfield Cup trophy goes to NSW auction

Sixty years have passed since Regal Wench won the Caulfield Cup in Melbourne, but the pressure will again be on as the prized-trophy goes under the hammer.

It's been six decades since outsider Regal Wench won the Caulfield Cup and now the trophy is up for grabs at auction.

The family of owner/trainer William James "Bill" Murrell has put the 1959 victory nine-carat gold cup on auction at Sotheby's Australia with expectations it will fetch up to $60,000.

The 690-gram cup is due to go under the hammer in Sydney on March 20.
