NSW Waratahs sign South African lock

Young South African lock Louis le Roets has signed a one-year Super Rugby deal with the NSW Waratahs.

The NSW Waratahs have boosted their Super Rugby second-row stocks by signing promising South African Le Roux Roets.

The 23-year-old has played provincial - Currie Cup - rugby in South Africa for the Lions, Bulls and Pumas and is excited to get a shot at Super Rugby after securing a one-year deal for the 2019 season starting in February.

Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson said Roets fitted the bill.

"We first noticed his talent in the Currie Cup and we have been searching for a big, aggressive and physical player who can get us going forward and excels in the set piece," Gibson said.

"At 135kg, Le Roux fits the profile that we have been wanting to add to our squad.

"His recruitment will add real competition and depth amongst our current lock options in Rob Simmons, Tom Staniforth, Ryan McCauley and Jed Holloway."
