Reigning champion Caroline Wozniacki has shown sharpness on her return to Melbourne Park ahead of the 2019 Australian Open.

The popular Dane looked the goods in a congenial practice match with world No.6 Elina Svitolina on Wednesday.

Wozniacki won the first set 6-3 in a semi-serious hit-out, before Svitolina won a tiebreak in a shortened second set designed to limit their efforts on court to an hour.

The world No.3 used the hit-out for crucial court time after last week's shock second-round loss to qualifier Bianca Andreescu in Auckland.

Svitolina, top seed at the Brisbane International, was bundled out by world No.33 Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the first round in Queensland.

Both women will now await Thursday night's singles draw as they continue preparations for the 2019 tournament.
