Highs and lows of racing
Trainer Stephen Gray should have been over the moon when his promising sprinter Lim's Cruiser won the G1 Lion City Cup.
Instead he was barely able to contain his emotions as his wonderful sprinter Emperor Max had another bleeding attack and that may well be the end of his career, although the prescribed penalty is six months but having worked so hard to get the Emperor back for this race, which he had won in the past, it doesn't like very likely. In the Cup Alibi was able to get second when he finally got out and Storm Troops ran third.
Earlier Infantry ran very well to get the Moonbeam Vase ahead of the favoured Gilt Complex with Laughing Gravy third and a much better run from Song To The Moon to take fourth. Before that Poseidon had won the 1400m BM 97 from Mr Fantastic and Golden Curl, with Bahana fourth.
On Friday the 3yo Classic went to the unbeaten Countofmontecristo, who must be odds-on already to take out the third leg and the 3yo Challenge. Could Be Pearls was an unexpected second and the favourite Jupiter Gold was third just in front of Sir Isaac.
