Hong Kong Derby 2017
John Moore will saddle six horses in this year's edition and with Rapper Dragon has the chance to win the rare treble for the 4yos.
Rapper Dragon has won the Classic Mile and the Classic Cup and the further 200m of the Derby - 2000m- does not look like it will be a problem. Joao Moreira has the ride and they will come out of gate 4 so a lot of boxes are ticked. Of course the price is nothing to write home about - 2.1 and almost certainly will go into the red. We are going very wide in this for the multiples and going for one of the stablemates Booming Delight which Ryan Moore will ride on 13.0, then we like Season's Bloom on 32 and Prawn Babe on 55, both of which showed promise on their last outings - whether this is too soon or not remains to be seen.
The Ambitious Dragon Handicap at Race 3 will set the scene for the day and with it comes the news that Able Friend has been scratched and it may be retirement for him. Giant Treasure is also out of the 1400m contest and that reduces the field to 5, so not really a bettable proposition as Invincible Dragon on 1.7 looks like being invincible.
The get-out is Race 10, a Class 2 over 1400m named for our old friend Akeed Mofeed. Western Express looks the go here - currently on 2.7, and for the multiples Gold Land 6.6, Keen Venture 8.7 and Jolly Jolly 13.0.
