Preakness weekend at Baltimore

The question being asked everywhere is can Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming win this second leg of the Triple Crown?

There are numerous statistics being touted around but not many of these consider the very sloppy track that the runners encountered in the Derby, and with that only being two weeks earlier it is asking a lot of a horse to be up to its best for the Preakness.

Always Dreaming holds the call here and is certainly a very nice horse but 4/5 is not value in our book. Classic Empire who was favoured for the Derby had a horror run and is capable of turning the tables here and is on 3/1. At present they are the only two on single figures. We go back to one of our Derby likes which is Gunnevera who was not a happy chappy running on the slop so may have saved some energy. This will be more suitable and at 15/1 we like him Also on that quote is one that didn't run in the Derby - Conquest Mo Money - he's drawn gate 10, the widest in the field, but is reputed to have very fast gate speed. Remains to be seen if he will use it coming from that gate.

Also on Saturday's card is the Longines Dixie Gr 2 over 1700m schedule for the turf but can be moved to the dirt if track isn't OK. Field of 10 headed by Chad Brown's French import Projected, having his third start in the US and seems now to have settled in. He's on 3/1. World Approval for Mark Casse is on 7/2, and Blacktype for Christophe Clement is on 4/1.

Friday's Blacj-Eyed Susan Gr over 1800m for the 3yo fillies has some potential problems as the temperature is expected to be very hot indeed, and that can cause problems with fillies. The field of 11 is headed by Moana 4/1 for Pletcher-Velazquez followed by Summer Luck on 5/1 and Shimmering Aspen 9/2.

In California there's the Kona Gold Gr 2 at Santa Anita for the sprinters over 1300m. Baffert's Lord Simba comes into this after a Gr 3 win last month and is on 5/2, with Calculator on 7/2 and Ransom The Moon on 4/1.Racing And Sports
