Local trainers often do well at this meeting but we picked the wrong local trainer yesterday as it was Mark Jonston and his Permian who won the Dante. Starting at 10/1, he finished 3/4 length in front of Benbatl with Crystal Ocean 1'2 length back in third, all three plus Rekindling who was fourth running on well in the finish.

The Middleton finished up with only four runners and Andrew Balding's Blond Me, 11/1, got the first money.

Friday sees the running of the Yorkshire Cup for the stayers over 2800m with 8 contestants headed by Her Majesty's Dartmouth from the Stoute yard with Ryan Moore wearing the famous silks. He's 3/1 and is the class in the race. Muntahaa 7/2 and Simple Verse 5/1 are also in the mix.
