Outsider Rialya ($21) had a good run fourth one out and one back. He improved three wide from the 800m and got to a narrow lead passing the 300m. He was headed at the 100m but ridden hard to come again to score a good long head win. Shenzhou Steeds was last in the 10-horse field to the 600m. He stuck to the inside and got a good split at the 200m improving to fourth at the 100m. He kept plugging on well to miss by only a long head to finish second. The favourite Rothera ($2.70) raced midfield three wide in the first part of the race. He then tracked up wide with cover from the 800m before being pushed very wide at the home turn. He put in a dash to take a narrow lead at the 200m but tired from that point after his early efforts and just lasted for third. Ibicenco was seventh on the rails most of the way to the 700m, went to the centre at the 600m and kept plugging on to take fourth with his top weight (58kg). *ANZ
