Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for May 22.
SANDOWN-LAKESIDE: RACE 7 @ 3:15 PM
CEASAR (1) is yet to miss a place in four runs this time in including a narrow win at this track two starts ago. He still managed to run third last time out when favourite despite meeting trouble at a crucial stage. He can bounce back with the prospect of firmer footing and the Blinkers going on. DIGNIFIED DOUBT (8) is lightly raced and progressing nicely. He'll make his own luck on speed from a good draw and this looks the natural progression off two nice wins since returning from a spell. BELLE ET RICHE (14) made up for a narrow defeat two starts ago with an easy win last start. She can go on with it here despite an awkward draw. SUNFALL (2) has been thereabouts first up behind the likes of Anamoe, Decent Raine and Jimmy The Bear and warrants plenty of respect here. HEAVENLY EAGLE (9) is a talented type who broke through nicely last start. The gate is no help but he can run into a minor place with luck. SELECTION: Follow up on Ceasar.

WANGARATTA: RACE 8 @ 3:55 PM
SCHUHBECK (3) raced on the speed, found the lead in the straight, then battled on gamely to finish second under 62kgs when resuming last start over 1523m at Geelong. Led all the way to win second-up last prep over this trip with a similar weight. Has the pace to neutralise the wide gate and looks ready to win. VANCITY GEM (8) stepped up quickly in distance when an even fourth over 1523m at Geelong last time. Very fit after three runs back and this looks an ideal assignment. OVERCHARGED (11) has been racing well without threatening. Draws a far better gate today so a top-three finish is on the cards. DASH TO THE BAR (5) was in the money first-up last prep so keep him in mind at his first run in 29 weeks. SELECTION: This race sets up beautifully for #3 Schuhbeck.
MUSWELLBROOK: RACE 6 @ 3:59 PM
ANGELICAL (3) made a perfect start to her career stringing three wins together on the bounce in her first preparation and has since been given time to furnish. Tuned up for this with an easy Tamworth trial and has a big chance to make it four from four. The well-related CEASEFIRE (2) has won two from three around this circuit and is drawn to get a soft run from the inside alley. Right in this. PREVISO (4) has never missed a drum in three attempts at the track and gets 1.5kg off with the claim. Top-three contender. NOBLE BEAUTY (7) is two from three over this trip and cannot be ignored. SELECTION: Angelical to win.
GAWLER: RACE 7 @ 4:45 PM (AET)
LOHN RANGER (1) resumed further improved just beaten here this trip in stronger grade. Has the speed to clear the awkward barrier and fitter will take plenty of beating. LADY SIMONE (6) needed the first-up run. She's sharp second-up and Toeroek sticking is a plus. Quick improvement is likely. VINTAGE FOLLY (9) is a stablemate who resumes off a solid trial for a leading barn and has been switched from the McEvoy stable. Won and just-missed the two runs before the break and is sure to have come on. Has a key gear switch and should go well. GO BUNDLE (2) resumes and will be very competitive if presented on-song. Vorster rides and that's a lead. SELECTION: Backing Lohn Ranger.
KALGOORLIE: RACE 6 @ 5:50 PM (AET)
CUBAN TWIST (2) nearly stole it off the front at Ascot last start before blowing out late down the straight. She saves her best for this circuit and will be peaking third up. Hard to beat. KALLAROO (1) his last two efforts have been full of merit and is now ready to be tested at the mile. What he does off the wide draw remains to be seen but with any early luck in the running then he should be right up there when the whips are cracking. BLACK COMET (3) has needed both his runs back this time in and should appreciate the drop in class for this assignment. He has a sound record at the distance and is ready to turn his form around. Include in all combinations. SASSATIONAL (6) had done nothing on this track prior to winning her last two races in a row, on both occasions she has come with a withering burst to get up late and though she is up in grade, there is no reason to think that she can't repeat the dose. Watch closely. SELECTION: Cuban Twist win bet.
