Racing took place at Sale and Canterbury on heavy ground at Sale and Canterbury yesterday and we’ve got a horse to follow from each.

Canterbury Race 3- Contemporary

This exceptionally bred colt by Exceed And Excel out of a G2 winning mare by Street Cry should be winning his maiden next start. He started favourite on debut at Flemington off the back of some smart jumpouts but just missed, before running close up behind the likes of Sejardan and Queen Of The Ball last preparation. His run at Canterbury when wide throughout was excellent, hitting the lead in the straight only to be beaten by Ever Bella who had a much softer run along the rails. I'd love to see him find a better surface but regardless, with even luck in running in another midweek maiden next start, Contemporary should be delivering on his early promise.

Sale Race 4- Meridius

All honours to the winner here Meridius who had to take gaps in the straight and found the line strongly at his second start. A rare son of Extreme Choice, who has been highly sought after, he jumped awkwardly on debut at Wangaratta but made up good late ground and he was again strong through the line at Sale. In testing conditions, which Meridius didn't appear to relish, he was too good for a few handy maiden gallopers. His dam, Jardine, has staying pedigree, and off Meridius' two starts, expect he can stretch out over a bit further and be competitive in midweek Bm64 grade or thereabouts next start.
