Today's Rosehill Preview with Chris Scholtz: 16th July 2022

3 minute read

Chris Scholtz previews the Rosehill meeting on July 16 with best bets and selections for all races plus Trial Watch and Blackbook Reports including the Grafton carnival.

ROSEHILL July 16

Best Bets

RACE 5 (6) COMME BELLA FILLE: Weights always make a difference on heavy tracks, enough reason to side with this in form mare under favourable conditions with the claim for Reece Jones bringing her in with only 52kg, a 6kg drop from her last start second over this trip at Randwick when narrowly beaten in a BM 78 by Nothinsweetaboutme. She's been in career best form since resuming with two strong wins on soft and heavy tracks over 1550m and 1600m at Randwick prior to her last start and taking confidence that the O'Shea stable has preferred to step the dual acceptor up to this class over an easier grade race on this program.

RACE 7 (9) BLESK: Another strong chance for the Reece Jones/John O'Shea combination with the apprentice claim giving this gelding an excellent chance to improve sharply on his first-up effort over 1400m at Randwick on June 11 when an inside gate was his undoing under 58.5kg. Boasts an impressive second up record, gets a significant gear change with blinkers back on and will be carrying 7.5kg less - it's no surprise to see the stable target this race with the dual acceptor.

RACE 9 (13) FRUMOS: This 4YO mare from the Waller stable has captured plenty of attention with two dominant Newcastle wins over 1400m to start her career. The ease of those wins in testing soft conditions have stamped her as a mare destined for better things which sees her land in this suitable BM 78 for her own sex carrying the limit weight. With William Pike booked it only adds to the reasons to be confident she will make the jump from provincial class.

TRIAL POINTERS

WARWICK FARM June 24: The unraced youngster FELIX MAJESTIC is a robust gelding by Smart Missile and should take plenty of benefit from his first trial since February. He was ridden along from the 200m to extend his winning margin to 3.5 lengths in the fastest of the three heats over 798m (47.27; 34.32).

HAWEKESBURY June 21: STARSPANGLEDANCER posted a brilliant 12 lengths win in the fastest 800m heat (46.63; 32.63). It was a huge improvement on the form this unraced filly displayed in her first trial in January and will take catching over a short course if she shows this speed in her races. Expect big improvement from maiden 3YO filly SURREAL LILY on her first start in May if you can trust the pace she displayed to record an impressive seven lengths in her quick 800m heat (47.15; 32.99).

ROSEHILL June 20: The maiden heat win over 900m by BOSTON CITY (54.35; 34.84) indicates that he could be a big improver on the form he displayed in his first trial experience. CINQUE TORRI is worth following on the strength of his fastest 1030m heat win (62.04; 34.49).

WARWICK FARM February 14 AMBERINA looked the part in her 800m heat (48.20; 34.43) and should make obvious natural improvement.
