WARWICK FARM August 27

Inside Grass; Soft 5

15 Heats – 4 x 1207m (2 Open; 2 Maiden); 1 x 821m (Open); 4 x 818m (4 Open); 3 x 815m (3 Maiden); 3 x 812m (3 Maiden)

Class is constant and no mare epitomises that belief more than multiple G1 winner BELLA NIPOTINA.

Ageing like a fine wine, she came back from a freshen after her Brisbane carnival heroics with an impressive prep trial over 821m on the inside grass at Warwick Farm.

The classy TIZ INVINCINBLE did a good job to get the better of the leader ROYAL MERCHANT and win the trial (49.00; 34.13) but it was the closing effort of BELLA NIPOTINA to finish third behind her Ciaron Maher stablemates that took the eye.

She was ridden with no urgency through the first half of the trial but really warmed to her work over the last 200m, making up several lengths under an easy ride from Louise Day in a sure sign she will be a threat in any sprint she contests through the spring.

There were several smart performances in other short course trials on the inside grass, none better than the effort of a lightly raced 4YO in the Chris Waller stable.

UNITED KINGDOM (Chris Waller): This NZ-bred 4YO by Almanzor won his debut over 1500m at Geelong last season and had only two more starts in Victoria before he was put away. His return to finish third in his fast open heat over 818m (47.69; 33.35) was one of the best trials of the session and augers well for his prospects of rising quickly through the grades when he resumes.

Some very quick heat winners in the short course trials included the fast runners FRILLED, SUPER ZIPPI; MICRO MAGIC and GREENSBORO while the strong front runner WHINCHAT is ready for a bold first-up effort after an easy win in the fastest of the four heats over 1207m.

HAWKESBURY August 26

Inside Grass; Good 4

17 Heats – 2 x 1250m (2 Open); 6 x 1000m (

Top class mare AMELIA'S JEWEL found her form in her second trial for her new trainers, an effort that puts her on track for a successful spring.

Among the maiden trials a winning effort by an unraced Pierata filly augers well for her debut.

AMELIA'S JEWEL (Annabel Neasham/Rob Archibald); Much improved showing from the former Perth mare to win the fastest 1000m heat (58.15; 33.90) with authority. Took a trail five lengths off the leaders before taking advantage of a split as they fanned turning for home, cruising to the lead and running through the line under a good hold.

MISS KIM KAR (Bjorn Baker): We tabbed this unraced filly off a trial win at Warwick Farm on August 12 and she improved further to run away with this 800m heat (48.98; 34.42) to win with plenty in reserve. She's improved since two trials last season and is ready to go to the races.

The import ADELAIDE RIVER and Group winner TRAFFIC WARDEN showed their class to win their heats over 1250m and 1000m while other maidens to keep tabs on include CONFESS OUR DREAMS, ADMITTED, NOW YOU'VE DONE IT; ZOUPER FELLOW and MOTORBIKE.
