New Group 1 winners
Six for Archipenko

European import Huetor (5 g ex Briviesca by Peintre Celebre) caused an upset in Saturday's rescheduled Group 1 Doomben Cup (2100m) at Eagle Farm, becoming the sixth Group 1 winner for Archipenko (Kingmambo). Formerly based at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, Archipenko died at the age of 13 in 2017 with his progeny including the Group 1 Hong Kong Gold Cup (2000m) winner Time Warp.

First for Better Than Ready
Apache Chase (4 g ex Silken Whisper by Diesis) handed Lyndhurst Stud's Better Than Ready (More Than Ready) his first Group 1 winner when the Desleigh Forster-trained gelding won Saturday's Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m) at Eagle Farm. Bought for $50,000 by Michael Sherrin at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale from the draft of his breeder Eureka Stud, Apache Chase beat Paulele by a head, taking his race record to nine wins and five placings in 22 starts. Better Than Ready covered 147 mares last season and his 2022 fee is set at $24,200 (inc GST).

Nine for Tavistock
Cambridge Stud's late sire Tavistock (Montjeu) sired his ninth Group 1 winner on Saturday when the New Zealand raider Pinarello (3 g ex Zona by Zabeel) won the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m). Racing in the colours of Cambridge Stud, Pinarello beat Paternal (Savabeel) by a head, with Caboche (Vadamos) third in a 1-2-3 for New Zealand-bred horses and gave Tavistock his fourth Derby winner. He is currently sitting second, behind Savabeel (Zabeel), in the leading sires table in New Zealand by earnings.

New stakes winners
Four for Dissident

In winning Saturday's Group 3 Lord Mayor's Cup (1800m) at Eagle Farm, Bigboyroy (5 g ex Follonica by Flying Spur) became the fourth stakes winner for Riverdene Stud's Dissident (Sebring). A $120,000 purchase by Mulcaster Bloodstock from the Newgate Farm draft at the 2018 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Bigboyroy scored by a length and a quarter over Ballistic Boy (Smart Missile). Dissident's fee remains at $6,600 (inc GST) this season.

Nine for Playing God
God Has Chosen (4 g ex Celtic Feva by Dr Johnson) won his eighth career victory and first at stakes level when he won Saturday's Group 3 Belmont Spring (1400m) at Belmont Park. Now the winner of his last three starts, God Has Chosen defeated Red Can Man (Gingerbread Man) by a neck and became the ninth stakes winner for his sire, the Darling View Thoroughbreds-based, Playing God (Blackfriars). Playing God's progeny is headed by the Group 1 winner Kay Cee. He was crowned champion first season sire in WA in 2017/18.

Five for Time Test
LA Stud shuttler Time Test (Dubawi) sired his fifth stakes winner – first New Zealand-bred stakes winner - when the Andrew Forsman-trained Leedox (2 g ex Bella Carolina by O'Reilly) broke his maiden in Saturday's Listed Futurity Stakes (1400m) at Pukehoke Park. Third on debut two weeks ago, the son of Time Test beat Contageous (Proisir) by a neck with that pair well clear of Timeless – a daughter of Time Test – back in third. Leedox was a NZ$220,000 buy by Bruce Perry Bloodstock from the draft of Mapperley Stud at Book 1 of last year's Karaka sale. Time Test stands at The National Stud in Newmarket in the northern hemisphere where his 2022 fee was advertised at £15,000 and his progeny also include the Group winners Rocchigiani and Romantic Time.
