Westbury Stud's young sire Tarzino records his second Group 1 winner this season

New Group 1 winners
Two for Tarzino

Gypsy Goddess (3 f ex Invisible Coin by Redoute's Choice) won Saturday's Group 1 Queensland Oaks (2200m) at Eagle Farm to become the second Group 1 winner for Tarzino (Tavistock). Twice placed at Group 1 level this autumn, Gypsy Goddess beat Barb Raider (Rebel Raider) by a length, her sixth victory in nine career starts. The Westbury Stud-based Tarzino has two crops of racing age, with his other Group 1 winner being Jungle Magnate who landed the South Australian Derby (2500m) last month.

 

New stakes winners
Three for Dalghar

Amusez Moi (5 g ex Next by In The Wings) gave Brighthill Stud's Dalghar (Anabaa) his third stakes winner when he won Saturday's Listed AGC Training Stakes (1650m) at Waverley. Amusez Moi has been through the sales ring twice, bought by Mr Zheng Man for NZ$26,000 at Book 3 of the NZB Karaka sale in 2018 and then made NZ$60,000 later that year when sold through the NZB Ready To Run Sale. Dalghar's other stakes winners are the dual Group 2 winner Scott Base and fellow Listed winner Astara.

 

First for Derryn
Sophmaze (2 f ex Miss Isle by Bachelor Duke) won Saturday's Listed Castletown Stakes (1200m) at Waverley, handing Grangewilliam Stud's first season sire Derryn (Hinchinbrook) his first stakes winner. Starting favourite, Sophmaze scored a decisive two and a quarter length victory over Miss Nico Belle (Nicconi) and recorded her second victory in four career starts. Derryn is now fourth in the New Zealand leading first season sires table by earnings, with Almanzor (Wootton Bassett) set to be crowned leading first season sire.

 

195 for Exceed And Excel
The James Cummings-trained Athelric (3 c ex Ida by Lonhro) handed Darley's Exceed And Excel (Danehill) his 195th stakes winner when he won Saturday's Listed Queensland Day Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm. The colt beat Arentee (Territories) by a head while his more fancied stablemate Ingratiating (Frosted) was a length and a half further back in third. Exceed And Excel has sired seven stakes winners in Australia this season with September Run his leading earner.

 

79 for I Am Invincible
The Tony Gollan-trained Vinco (5 g ex Percussive by Encosta De Lago) recorded his ninth career victory and first at stakes level in Saturday's Spear Chief Quality (1500m) at Eagle Farm, giving Yarraman Park's I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit) his 79th stakes winner. A $400,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase, Vinco beat Charmmebaby (Charm Spirit) by a length and three quarters while Never No More (No Nay Never) was third. Vinco is the seventh stakes winner from 36 runners bred on the I Am Invincible / Encosta De Lago cross. I Am Invincible sits at the head of the leading sires table in Australia by earnings with prizemoney of $18,017,680 while So You Think (High Chaparral) is currently in second place with his progeny earnings totalling $17,610,722.

 

140 for Invincible Spirit
Irish-bred gelding Irish Sequel (6 g ex Baliyana by Dalakhani) won Saturday's Listed Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill, becoming the 140th stakes winner for the Irish National Stud-based sire Invincible Spirit (Green Desert). Bred by Kia Ora Stud, the Chris Waller-trained gelding scored by a head from Bonny Ezra (Road To Rock), taking his record to six wins and five placings in 23 career starts. Invincible Spirit's fee was set at €60,000 this spring, down from €80,000 last year.

 

41 for So You Think
Political Debate (2 c ex Nakataan by Zabeel) broke his maiden in Saturday's Listed The Phoenix (1500m) at Eagle Farm to become the 41st stakes winner for Coolmore Stud's So You Think (High Chaparral). Political Debate was bought by Hermitage and Tom Magnier for $900,000 at last year's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. So You Think has enjoyed a successful season on the racetrack, siring ten stakes winners in Australia including a Group 1 treble on day two of The Championships. He will stand for a career high fee of $93,500 (inc GST) this spring.

 

17 for Spirit Of Boom
Boomnova (4 m ex Silva Nova by Canadian Silver) took out Saturday's Listed Lightning Quality Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm to give Eureka Stud's Spirit Of Boom his 17th stakes winner. Trained by Chris Munce who bought the mare for $110,000 at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast March Yearling Sale, Boomnova beat Garibaldi (I Am Invincible) by a length to record her sixth victory from 15 career starts.

 

122 for Snitzel
Arrowfield Stud's Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) sired stakes winner number 122 when Stroll (2 f ex Walk The Streets by Street Cry) won the Listed Bill Carter (1200m) at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Stroll was a $450,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Proven Thoroughbreds and O'Dea Hoysted Racing from the draft of Baramul Stud and she is the fourth juvenile stakes winner for Snitzel this season; Best Of Bordeaux, Lofty Strike and Williamsburg being his others. Snitzel, who is currently fifth in the leading sires table in Australia by earnings, will stand for $220,000 (inc GST) this spring.
