1992 Australian Champion 2YO dies at the age of 32

Newhaven Park announced on Monday that Champion Australian 2YO Burst (Marauding) had died. She was 32.

Bred by Newhaven Park, Burst won the 1992 Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), Sires' Produce Stakes (1400m) and Champagne Stakes (1600m) in 1992 before going on to be placed a further five times at Group 1 level. Burst was sold in 1996 for a record price of $900,000, in foal to Danehill (Danzig) and produced 11 foals. 

Newhaven Park's release read: "We would like to thank everyone who was involved with Burst, the only filly to ever complete the 2YO Triple Crown. 

"Her trainer, the legendary Clarry Conners, and his team at Victory Lodge, regular jockey Shane Dye, and all members of our team here at Newhaven Park. We would especially like to thank Vanessa Heep, who attended to her every need since her return to Newhaven Park." 

As a broodmare, she produced 11 foals of which six raced and five were winners. Her first foal, First Burst (Danehill) was stakes placed in South Africa and went on herself to produce the Grade 3 winner Winter Burst (Western Winter). Burst is also the dam of the unraced mare Bounce (Woodman) who produced dual Group 2 winner Eclair Choice (California Dane) while she is the grandam of South African Grade 1 winner Vernichey (Vercingetorix). Her final foal was a colt by Medaglia d'Oro (El Prado) who was born in 2012. 

In 2018, with the help of Alastair Pulford at Darley, John Kelly's wife Sarah located Burst and organised her return to Newhaven Park, thanks to the kindness and generosity of her owner at the time.
