Owner and breeder Nick Moraitis, who raced seven-time Group 1 winner Might And Power (Zabeel), has died at the age of 87 following a long battle with liver cancer.

The owner of one of Australia's largest fruit and vegetable businesses, Moraitis bought the Windsor Park Stud-bred Might And Power as a yearling and the son of Zabeel (Sir Tristram) went on to win seven times at Group 1 level including the 1997 Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m) before capturing the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) just over two weeks later. He went on the following year to win the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).

Moraitis also raced Exceed And Excel (Danehill) and became a director of the Sydney Turf Club before its merger with the Australian Jockey Club. More recently, Moraitis bred and raced the Joe Pride-trained multiple stakes winner Destiny's Kiss (Power Of Destiny).
