Widden Stud reverse shuttler sires first stakes winner in Europe

Widden Stud's Zoustar (Northern Meteor), who shuttles to Tweenhills Farm in England, sired his first northern hemisphere-bred stakes winner when Lezoo (2 f ex Roger Sez by Red Clubs) won the Listed Empress Fillies' Stakes (6f) at Newmarket on Saturday.

A winner on debut at Bath on June 11, the Ralph Beckett-trained Lezoo took the lead inside the final 100 metres under Frankie Dettori and pulled a length and three quarters clear of Malrescia (Acclamation), becoming the 29th stakes winner for Zoustar (Northern Meteor).

Zoustar's stakes winners include three Group 1 winners in Sunlight, Zoutori and Mizzy and Lezoo is one of three winners from the stallion's first northern hemisphere-bred crop.

Lezoo is one of four winners and the only stakes winner to date out of the Group 3 winning mare Roger Sez (Red Clubs). The filly has been through the sales ring twice. She was bought for 77,000gns by Hamish Macauley at Book 3 of last year's Tattersall's October Yearling Sale and then made €110,000 at the Arqana Breeze Up Sale last month when purchase by Atlas Bloodstock.

Zoustar stood for a fee of £25,000 at Tweenhills Farm this year and he will stand for a career high fee of $198,000 (inc GST) at Widden Stud this spring.
