Mastercraftsman, Oasis Dream, Power & Raven's Pass add new Group One winners

86 for Lope De Vega
Former shuttler Lope De Vega (Shamardal) notched up his 86th stakes winner on Sunday when Berneuil (4 g ex Derivatives by Dansili) won the Prix du Petit Couvert (Gr 3, 1000m) at Longchamp. Starting favourite, Berneuil scored a commanding three and a half length victory over Collinsbay (Cable Bay). Berneuil is out of Derivatives who is herself out Group One winner Favourable Terms.The Ballylinch Stud-based Lope De Vega’s stakes winners include 47 Group winners and in Australia has produced 16 stakes winners from 254 runners while the Dansili (Danehill) cross has produced an impressive 21 per cent stakes winners to runners. Lope De Vega's son Lucky Vega is standing his first season at stud at Yulong this year. 

 

17 for Mastercraftsman
The late Coolmore Stud-based Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer) notched up Group One winner number 17 on Sunday when the Jessie Harrington-trained Discoveries (2 f ex Alpha Lupi by Rahy) won the Moyglare Stud Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) at the Curragh. A homebred for the Niarchos family, Discoveries kept on in the closing stages and defeated Agatha (Caravaggio) by three quarters of a length. Sunset Shiraz (Time Test) was another two lengths back in third. Mastercraftsman, who has sired 83 stakes winners, died last month at the age of 15. 

 

18 for Oasis Dream
The Charlie Appleby-trained Native Trail (2 c ex Needleleaf by Observatory) became the 18th Group One winner for Juddmonte Farm’s Oasis Dream (Green Desert) when he scored an impressive three and a half length victory in the Vincent O’Brien National Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) at the Curragh. Unbeaten in two prior career starts, Native Trail pulled clear in the final furlong to defeat Point Lonsdale (Australia) by three and a half lengths. Native Trail is one of 127 stakes winners for Oasis Dream. 

 

Three for Power
Sonnyboyliston (4 g ex Miss Macnamara by Dylan Thomas) gave the Oakland’s Stud-based Power (Oasis Dream) his third Group One winner when he handled the step up in class to win the Irish St Leger (Gr 1, 1m6f) at the Curragh on Sunday. Trained by Johnny Murtagh, Sonnyboyliston defeated the Lloyd Williams-owned Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) winner Twilight Payment (Teofilo) by three quarters of a length. Power’s first two Group One winners were Law Of Indicies and Helvic Dream and his stakes winners tally stands at 21. 

 

Three for Raven’s Pass
The Edward Lynam-trained Romantic Proposal (5 m ex Playwithmyheart by Diktat) became Group One winner number three for Raven’s Pass (Elusive Quality) when she won Sunday’s Flying Five Stakes (Gr 1, 5f) at the Curragh. Romantic Proposal took the lead inside the final 100 metres and scored by a half length from A Case Of You (Hot Streak). Glass Slippers (Dream Ahead) finished third. Raven’s Pass stood for a fee of €7,500 at Darley’s Kildangan Stud this year and Romantic Proposal is one of 37 stakes winners for the sire whose other Group One winners are Tower Of London, Matterhorn and Royal Marine. 


150 for Tapit
Gainesway Farm’s Tapit (Pulpit) notched up his 150th stakes winner on Saturday when the Mark Casse-trained Tap It To Win (4 r ex Onepointhreekarats by Medaglia d’Oro) won the Seagram Cup Stakes (Gr 3, 8.5f) at Woodbine. Tapit is currently sitting third in the leading sires table in the USA / Canada by earnings.
