Keeneland officials have confirmed that the share in the Airdrie Stud-based stallion Upstart (Flatter) sold to owner and breeder Mike Freeny for US$450,000 at the April Horses Of All Age Sale that concluded last week.

Upstart has made a good start to his stud career with Grade 1 winner and leading classic prospect Zandon as well as undefeated Kentucky Oaks (Gr 1, 9f) contender Kathleen O and his 2022 fee is advertised as Private.

"Everyone involved with the Upstart share was delighted with the result of the sale on Friday," Keeneland vice president of sales Tony Lacy said.

"We are happy to confirm that the contracts were fully executed promptly last Saturday and all parties are very satisfied. The successful sale of this share was made possible by the efforts of many, most notably Bret Jones at Airdrie and Mike Freeny, and Keeneland was pleased to have the opportunity to present this unique offering at the April Sale."
