Easter Egg Finale Could Be All Pearls

3 minute read

Saturday night at Wentworth Park will see the 33rd running of the time-honoured Group 1 Golden Easter Egg.

Over its history the race has turned many winners into household names. The race has been previously won by past champions Brett Lee, Rapid Journey and Tenthill Doll. On Saturday night another will be added to the illustrious list.

The gruelling three-week qualification process through the heats and semis to this week's final has seen the cream rise to the top in what is a crackerjack field. Many pundits believe the final just may have a pearl lining in whirlwind superstar She's A Pearl trained by Jodie Lord, a daughter of champion Group 1 stud dog Aston Dee Bee. However, like all Easter Egg Finals seven other runners believe they can take home the illustrious Easter Egg trophy that all trainers dream of having on the mantlepiece at home.

2022 New South Wales Futurity Winner Idolize trained by Victorian Peter Presutto looms as the greatest threat. She is blessed with blinding early speed in what looms as a battle extravaganza as to who will lead at the first turn. Idolize also has a Laurel's Classic win on her resume. However, let's not forget She's A Pearl recently demolished a quality Temora Cup field just weeks ago that included top Victorian invaders. With a personal best time of 29.44 at Wentworth Park She's A Pearl on paper does have a few lengths on many of her main rivals.

Group 1 races at times have provided fairy tale endings. Peter Lagogiane the most notable with his two Million Dollar Chase wins at Wentworth Park. If there is to be an ending on Saturday night that just might spark that type of emotion, then it may lay in the hands of rising trainer Kayla Jane Coleman. The daughter of well-respected trainer Debbie Coleman, Kayla puts the polish on Tachycardic drawn in box two.

Of all the runners it was Tachycardic who improved most during the series to make the final running a personal best in the heats, then last week running second to She's A Pearl in the Semi's. The raw emotion of the achievement poured out onto the track last Saturday night with Kayla clearly overwhelmed with the realisation that she had qualified for the final of the Golden Easter Egg.

In what looks an amazing final. My tips for the race are 5-4-1-7. Number 1 Louis Rumble looks nicely drawn on the rails and should get a good run and The Frank Hurst trained Good Odds Cash is too classy to dismiss also. I believe however the squeeze boxes will fight it out, and She's A Pearl should be joining a long list of champion bitches etched on the honour roll.
