Tabcorp Park Menangle Preview & Best Bets – Saturday, August 3

3 minute read

A good draw and a step up to a favoured distance gives third-up specialist Brooklyn Bridge every chance to produce his best in the Listed Kevin Newman FFA at Menangle on Saturday night.

The meeting also sees the two and three-year-olds come to town for the NSW Bred Finals.

Race-by-race preview of Menangle, Saturday August 3

Race 1: THE EUREKA SEPTEMBER 7 BOOK NOW PACE

TREACHEROUS GALL (6) is newcomer to the Aiken yard from NZ where she last raced at Group 1 level at Addington in February and scored a win two starts earlier at Ascot Park. Has two wins and a placing in three tries at the mile and hasn't missed a place in four fresh attempts, winning twice. Can kick off in Australia with a win. Hard to knock the form of IM ROCKIN IT (5) who came from wider to land the Winter Gift Final here last week, giving him three wins and a second in his last four outings. Must rate highly. CASH AND BLING (1) is racing well at this venue having placed in both outings since scoring from a much wider barrier. Gets his chance from the ace draw. CAULONIA COURAGE (4) must be respected having won his last two outings here.

Race 2: BESTINBEDS.COM.AU PACE

UNFAZED (11) did a good job to finish less than 5m away when tackling strong company over the mile last week and was good when scoring in this company two back after racing parked. Draws wider but is racing well and owns a good record at this circuit and distance. DOUGS PLATTER (6) has had five weeks off since suffering atrial fibrillation last start but has won a trial in that time. He was racking up the wins here last campaign so his best measures right up to these. CRAFTMANS CHARLIE (5) has been very consistent this campaign. Came from this same draw for a 5.7m win at this circuit and distance two back then stepped up to this grade when placed last week. Go well again. HY VOLTAGE (9) is worth some thought off last week's win from this same barrier.

Race 3: BESTINBEDS.COM.AU KEVIN NEWMAN FFA (LISTED CLASSIC)

BROOKLYN BRIDGE (2) was beaten only 2.3m over the mile last time and will relish stepping up to a distance where he has won six of nine attempts. Has only once been beaten in four third-up tries so can peak aided by the good draw. PETES SAID SO (6) brings good form to the table having recorded back-to-back wins at this circuit before drawing deepest last time and fighting on for a 2.8m third. Has the gate speed to take advantage of a lower draw. Strong claims. MAX DELIGHT (8) had been racing consistently before finding the winners' list again last week, working to the front from a similar draw to this and going on to score by 2.3m. Beat Petes Said So there and while drawn outside that rival tonight he is a big chance to do it again. ABOUTTIME (7) resumes for a new yard after a lengthy spell but has been readied with three trials and goes very well fresh with four wins and a placing from five attempts. Keep safe.

Race 4: CLUB MENANGLE WARATAH FINAL

SALLY BIGTIME (4) came from this barrier for a dominant win two back at Newcastle before clocking in second last time at Tamworth. She has been kept up to the mark with a trial win and has some upside. MERAKI (1) led from wider at her most recent outing at Bathurst and dug deep to get home by a nose, her second success from her last three outings. She has the gate speed to take advantage of the inside draw. PETER FORSBERG (11) will have to overcome a wide barrier but has been racing consistently since recording back-to-back wins at Newcastle, last time leading and fighting on to go under by just a head. If things go his way he could return to the winners' list. JOETOMO (5) has claims off a win two back at Wagga while STARZZZ REIGN (3) can be competitive from a low draw.

Race 5:  BETTORS WISH STANDING AT COBBITTY EQUINE FARM LADYSHIP PACE

MARIA ALLEGONDA (3) will be fitter for her resuming effort when midfield in the Listed Stylish Memphis and will appreciate a class drop. That was her first time out of the top three at this circuit and distance and she is aided by a good draw so has winning claims. CARRERA SUNSET (11) was down the track in the Stylish Memphis but was forced to race three wide so that result can be forgiven. Draws out but races well at this distance so could bounce back. DIEING ART (9) hasn't been too far away in her two outings since scoring at Penrith. Another drawn wide but is good enough to measure up with some luck. WINONA WRITER (5) recorded a string of placings before tackling the Winter Gift Final last week. Include.

Race 6:  HRNSW 3YO NSW BRED FINAL

DANGEROUS THREATS (10) is a progressive colt who is two from two since a spell. Drew on the back row and raced outside the leader when beating race rival Vite Monet last start at Penrith. Cops a wide barrier but he showed gate speed for a resuming win by 6.6m at this circuit two back and races well third-up so should be peaking. VITE MONET (9) progressed of the resuming second to Dangerous Threats for a strong win at Bathurst last week, coming from the back line both times. Owns a good record at this circuit and distance and should be peaking third up. GLITTER AINT GOLD (8) is really delivering now having landed a hat trick of wins when leading from a similar barrier to cruise home by 12m last time at Dubbo. This is a step up but he looks up to the task. ROCKU (11) and MISTERFOURTHOUSAND (12) both draw wide but have the form to be competitive with even luck.

Race 7: HRNSW 2YO NSW BRED FINAL

GUNNA RELOAD (5) is a progressive filly who has won both her starts since a spell, last time coming from a similar barrier for a 5.6m win as a hot favourite at Penrith. Has scope for further improvement so can maintain her perfect record this time in. KASBAH (11) has placed in both starts this time in, the latest a second to Gunna Reload when off the back line at Penrith. Draws out but has won a trial here since the last attempt so should be close to peaking. DOWN WARD DOG (9) came from this barrier in scoring a narrow debut win at Penrith two back before drawing on the back line when beaten just a head last time. Could have more progress to come. LOOKIN GOOD MARGIE (3) has been runner up at her last two outings and enjoys a draw closer to the pegs.

Race 8: SUMMERTIME PREMIUM POULTRY PACE

WHATABOYJACK (4) was solid when beaten only 6m in last week's Winter Gift Final and did a good job in a heat two back when off a similar barrier for a 1.2m second. Has winning claims in this suitable assignment. KILLARA SAMURAI (5) drew wide in the Winter Gift Final so prepared to forgive that result. Was runner up here two back to follow a hat trick of wins at Newcastle so can bounce back. JILLIBY ADORE (1) placed in a higher-graded race at Bathurst last start and scored a win at Penrith three back. Led in both of those so can take advantage of the ace draw. SHEFFIELD SPARKY (2) draws well and has claims off a close second here three back.

Race 9: GARRARDS TROTTERS STANDING START HANDICAP

THE LOCOMOTIVE (7) comes off a solid effort when midfield in the G1 Great Square in Brisbane when he drew on the back row. He is two from two at this circuit and distance and should be hitting peak fitness third up so can show his best. TORO STRIDE (8) is going great guns having scored a 1.2m win over this distance last week, giving him three wins and a placing from his last four. Standing starts have proven a concern in the past but if he gets it right he is going well enough to overcome the 20m handicap. SUPER SERVICE (5) completed a winning hat trick, two of them at this circuit and for the new stable, when scoring over the mile a fortnight ago. Won narrowly over this distance two back. Big chance to extend the winning streak. SUNNY GEE (9) won his last attempt in a standing start race three back and has placed in both outings since. Go well again. SHEZA PLEASURE (1) has been racing consistently and can feature again from the front mark.

BEST BETS:

Race 3 #2 Brooklyn Bridge – Peaks third up and suited by a longer distance and a good draw.

Race 5 #3 Maria Allegonda– Drops in class and will be improved second up.
