Auteuil – 11th June 2022.

Venue: Auteuil (Soft)

Race: R2 – Listed Prix d'Iéna Hurdle (3500m)

Type: Listed Hurdle for three-year-old fillies only

Winner: Jolydam du Breuil

Jockey: Geoffrey Ré

Trainer: Erwan Grall

Breeding: Kap Rock x Dameline des Bois

Second: Villa Rica

Third: Angela du Berlais

Jolydam Du Breuil caught the eye on Saturday at Auteuil when remaining unbeaten in the Listed Prix d'Iéna Hurdle (3500m).

Angela du Berlais took the role as pacesetter establishing a decent speed throughout with warm favourite Villa Rica (finished second) always prominent and in close attendance. Eventual winner, Jolydam du Breuil, settled into a good rhythm, jumping, and travelling well throughout the contest, positioning a close third at the halfway mark.

Winning jockey Geoffrey Re asked his mount to creep closer when travelling along the back of the course moving into second placing with five to go. The daughter of Kap Rock made gradual headway and maintained her solid jumping. She looked the main danger to the leader turning for home, pressing for the advantage with 500m remaining.

Geoffrey Ré went straight to the grandstand rail entering the home straight and the filly hit the front narrowly approaching the final hurdle. A nice final jump sealed the race and the three-year-old stretched clear in style recording a second win from as many career starts, maintaining her promising and exciting profile after her debut success at Strasbourg over 3300m three weeks ago.

Jolydam du Breuil is by Kap Rock who stands at Knockhouse Stud in Ireland. Kap Rock is a half-brother to the top-class National Hunt sire Kapgarde and it will be interesting to see how Jolydam du Breuil improves in the future. She looks one for the notebook.
