3 minute read

A total of 762 horses from 19 different countries have been nominated for the Dubai World Cup card on March 27 – with potential runners in the 25th running of the $12 million highlight headed by Saudi Cup favourite Charlatan and Pegasus World Cup winner Knicks Go.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained Mogul with Ryan Moore in the saddle wins the LONGINES Hong Kong Vase (Group 1-2400m).

Other names to feature among a total of 176 nominations for the Dubai World Cup include multiple G1 winner Code Of Honor, Godolphin's undefeated Brendan Walsh trainee Maxfield – plus Tacitus, who finished fourth in the 2020 Breeders' Cup Classic.

Like Charlatan and Knicks Go, Tacitus is due to run in the Saudi Cup before continuing to Dubai, where he was set to run last year until the meeting was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Contested over 2,000 metres (1m2f) on dirt, the Dubai World Cup has been won by horses trained in France, Japan, UAE, UK and USA in its first 24 runnings.

Among nominations for the main turf event, the $5m Dubai Sheema Classic, are Addeybb and Mogul, respective winners of the Hong Kong Vase and Champion Stakes, plus a strong Japanese representation led by Arima Kinen heroine Chrono Genesis and Glory Vase and US star Channel Maker, recently named US turf champion at the Eclipse Awards ceremony

Other big names holding nominations on the card include Prince of Wales's Stakes winner Lord North, Pegasus Turf hero Colonel Liam, star Australian sprinter Bivouac and leading American three-year-olds Jackie's Warrior and Medina Spirit.
