Mitro can find back of the net at Windsor

3 minute read

Mitrosonfire has rediscovered the winning groove and can make it a quickfire double in the Fitzdares Sprint Series Handicap at Windsor.

The four-year-old won four times last term for William Muir and Chris Grassick, but his rating obviously took a bit of hike for those victories and he started this year on a perch of 86, some 10lb higher than last season.

Mitrosonfire turned in a fair performance on his first run of 2022, finishing fourth behind Silver Samurai at Newbury but he did not take the expected step forward the next time, trailing home eighth behind that same rival and dropping a little in the weights.

However, the son of Lethal Force returned to his best at Nottingham earlier this month, showing a thoroughly likeable attitude to come home a neck winner over Aplomb and signal that his campaign was really getting started.

Raised 3lb for that, Mitrosonfire is now back on 86, but it looks a mark that is within his compass.

La Yakel can strike for William Haggas in the Fitzdares Novice Stakes after what was a hugely-promising first run at Nottingham last month.

Third in a novice heat there, the son of Time Test gave himself plenty to do in being slow to break, racing last through the early stages and encountering traffic problems when trying to challenge in the straight.

He kept on all the way to the line though, grabbing place honours in the final strides and it will be disappointing if he cannot improve from that.

Haggas should also be on target at Wolverhampton as Public Opinion boasts strong claims in the Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Novice Stakes.

Beaten into third on her debut at Newmarket, the form of that race has worked out well with the second and fourth winning, as well as Public Opinion herself.

She got off the mark at Lingfield earlier this month, having to show plenty of determination to fend off Rogue Missile by a head over six furlongs.

Public Opinion has plenty of stamina on her dam's side and stepping up to seven furlongs here should be a positive for her.

Lethal Touch made a fine start on turf when winning at Nottingham just a week ago and has every chance of following up in Chepstow's Vickers.Bet On Facebook Handicap.

After four luckless all-weather runs, Joseph Parr found a very average event in which to gain her first victory, with Lethal Touch shrugged off a slow start to come home a two-and-a-quarter-length winner with seemingly a bit still left in the locker.

She must shoulder a 6lb penalty here, but it could be that 10 furlongs on turf is her optimum assignment.
