Geoglyph gave his sire Drefong his first G1 as he overpowered favourite Equinox to win the Japanese 2000 Guineas.  There wasn't much in the market between Equinox(second) and Do Deuce (third) who vied for favouritism and this meant that Geoglyph started and 9.1.  His finish was so strong that he should have a very good chance in the Derby.  Danon Beluga was fourth.

On Saturday the Arlington Cup at Hanshin went to Danon Scorpion by a nose from Taisei Divine with King Hermes ¾ length back and Jun Blossom just a nose away in fourth.

Sunday's other feature was the Antares Stakes at Hanshin on the dirt over 1800m and a slight upset here with Omega Perfume winning from Gloria Mundi and New Monument third.

News from South America that continuing their quest for useful mares the Japanese have bought the Brazilian Oaks winner Olinda de Iguassú.  She has a 4 from 10 record at the top level.
