Hollie breaking more glass ceilings

3 minute read

Not content with her win in the French Oaks Hollie Doyle steered Trueshan to victory in the Northumberland plate.

And that was under a ton of weight (10 stone 8 in pommy terms) which saw him become the hero of Newcastle ass they had backed him into favouritism.

And after Hollie had suffered the trauma in the previous race where her mount Catbird Seat broke down and had to be euthanised.  Very difficult to get your emotions under control and just keep going after something like that.

Naturally enough she was the first female to win this race, also known as the Pitman's Derby.  Spirit Mixer ran a great race for second and Solent Gale 25/1 was thid ahead of Rajinsky.

Trueshan will now head to the Goodwood Cup for which this race was supposed to be a case of getting a run into him!

Earlier Hollie had won on Arabian Warrior for Saeed bin Suroor and husband Tom had won the G3 on Sense of Duty so they should have been able to afford a decent dinner!

The Northumberland Vase was all about Zaffee although Evaluation in 4th ran a very decent race but looked to be on the wrong side of the track – nothing was winning from there.

At Newmarket William Buick rode a treble and Frankie Dettori a winner on his only ride of the day.  The media has been full of the Gosdens-Dettori "sabbatical" which probably hasn't been the best seen split of modern times.

On a more serious note the passing of Alex Head, a wonderful person whom we were privileged to meet at Longchamp when Treve was running in an Arc trial which she didn't win but he felt she would be OK in the Arc.
