Despite nearly having his arms ripped off, Stephane Pasquier was happy.

In the Grand Prix de Paris at Deauville on 14th July Onesto eventually settled down, and the son of Frankel, who had been "a nightmare" going down to the start and in the early part of the race still had enough go to overtake the brave early leader Simca Mille 5/1 and win by 2 ½ lengths. Onesto, trained by Fabrice Chappet, should develop into a nice 4yo next year as he obviously has strength, speed and ability and should he stay in training this year could add more good results to his CV.  Favourite L'Astronome had a forgettable run.  The track was rated soft so Scorpion's record remains intact!

Earlier the Prix Malleret provided a thrilling finish has half the field of 6 was involved in a three-way photo with the win going to Raclette by a head from Lastochka 8/1 and Bailykara a short neck away third.

The meeting concluded with the Prix Maurice de Neuil G2 and it was a happy result for raiders Hughie Morrison and Tom Marquand as Quickthorn was too good for the rest of the G2 field, defeating Jannah Flower by 1 ¼ length.   German raider Diamantis was 4th – possibly the trip was a bit short for him!

Other news from France is that Verry Elleegant has her first serious bit of work over 1600m at Longchamp and delighted Christophe Soumillon with her run.  She's scheduled to go to Deauville on 2 August for the Prix Rothschild.
