Group 1 placed filly Revolutionary Miss is somewhat under the radar in Saturday’s Group 2 $250,000 Darley Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) but co-trainer Peter Snowden is quietly confident he’ll leave Randwick with a spring contender.
The Blue Diamond runner-up didn't handle the heavy track when unplaced in the Golden Slipper but Peter Snowden said she's a filly to be reckoned with especially when the Darley Princess Series moves beyond 1200m.
Revolutionary Miss was $10 with TAB on Thursday in the Silver Shadow, with Kerrin Mcevoy to ride, but she's an $11 chance in early Flight Stakes betting.
"She may not be sharp enough for some of the good fillies but it'd be no surprise to see her storming home and doing her best work late,'' Snowden said.
"She showed last time in the further she got the better she was going to be, she was always good late.
"Her trials have been good. How far she gets this time in I'm not sure. I've got an open mind on how far we stretch her."
It's easy to forget Revolutionary Miss ran Golden Slipper winner Fireburn to under half a length when they met on a good track at her debut. She was runner-up in the Widden Stakes to Queen Of The Ball before heading to Melbourne.
She produced a big finish to win the Fillies Prelude at Caulfield before just missing to Daumier in the Blue Diamond.
Snowden said the filly has "built up all over" in her break and can't fault anything she's doing at home.
"She's been in work for quite a while, she's come along really nicely,'' he said.
"She's got a really good mindset too, a good stable filly. She's a good trackworker, very quiet and laid back.
"She's a tremendous filly to work, she can settle back off horses or she can lead in her work."
Stablemate Russian Conquest is entered for a barrier trial at Randwick on Friday and likely heads there instead of tackling the Silver Shadow from the outside alley.
Snowden said he doesn't want the filly to have a hard first-up run and if she does trial she'll resume in the Group 2 Darley Furious Stakes (1200m) in two weeks.
"She needs to go around because she is so well in herself,'' he said.
"I know she will run her heart out, I don't want her to have a gutbuster first-up."
Talented sprinter King Of Sparta has the chance to atone for his defeat as favourite in the Aurie's Star at Flemington when he contests the Group 3 $200,000 MostynCopper Show County Quality (1200m).
The four-year-old, who very much prefers dry ground, won the Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield second-up and held favouritism at $3 with TAB on Thursday.
"He pulled too hard at Flemington, he didn't relax at all,'' Snowden said.
"When he didn't get cover he didn't switch off at all so it was no surprise to see him a bit soft late.
"I think with a little more speed here, and he's much better around a corner, it looks a nice race for him."
Stayer Carif continues his progression up in distance in the Group 3 $200,000 ACJC Premier's Cup (2000m) with next month's Newcastle Cup his first spring aim.
"He's ticking over really well, I've been happy with both his runs and he will be competitive,'' Snowden said.
