Randwick, Race 4: High Supremacy

In what was a day at Randwick which heavily favoured on-pace runners, it was the run of Richard and Michael Freedman High Supremacy in race four that caught the eye.

Returning from a 13-week let up over 1400m, the four-year-old gelding jumped on terms from his tricky gate (9), before quickly being restrained to the tail of the field by jockey Nash Rawiller to avoid getting caught wide.

Travelling rearward throughout, the son of Savabeel had all but one runner in front of him when making the turn. Rawiller decided to save ground along the rail and looked to have a bit of horse under him when entering the straight but with quite the task ahead. The star hoop bided his time in behind runners as he slowly but surely crept closer.

It wasn't until passing the 100m that the gelding was given a clear passage, but when asked the question exploded through the gap and powered away to win, the manner of the win very much defying the successful racing pattern on the day.

The first up win for High Supremacy sets him up extremely well for this campaign and I assume he will continue to rise in trip at his proceeding runs until reaching 2000m. While the four-year-old is nominated for the $7.5 million Golden Eagle (1500m – Oct 30), I suspect the distance maybe too short for where he may be at in his preparation. Nevertheless, Saturday's run was a brilliant return effort and warrants a blackbook add because another win isn't far away for this gelding.
