Luttrell’s sprinter a dilemma for punters

3 minute read

Longford trainer Peter Luttrell will set his handy sprinter Ethical Dilemma for a couple of weight-for-age features during the Ladbrokes Tasmanian Summer of Racing after the gelding scored an emphatic win in the open class sprint over 1120m in Launceston on Friday night.

As the second rank outsider, Ethical Dilemma ($41) settled near the rear in a hot field that had Galenus start favourite ($2.05) ahead of the promising Coronation Keith ($3), along with this season's Newmarket handicap winner Deroche ($4 out to $5.50).

It was a sizzling tempo early with Galenus and Deroche sharing the lead ahead of Coronation Keith with Liffeybeau caught three-wide for most of the trip.

While the favourites were cutting at each other, rider Bulent Muhcu must have had a smile on his face as wide as the Mowbray straight when he eased his charge to challenge over the final 200 metres.

In the space of 100 metres Ethical Dilemma had the leaders covered and he went on to win convincingly from the other outsider Geegee Trendsetter ($51) with Deroche hanging on for third ahead of the fast-finishing Gee Gee Secondover.

Peter Luttrell also celebrated an emotional win when his five-year-old Military Law scored a game win in a class one over 1420m.

Military Law ($7.50) came with a well-timed run to grab victory in the shadows of the post from the favourite Laylow Pluck ($3.70) with Krupt Candy ($8) rattling home late to grab third.

"I've had a few issues I had to sort out with this horse but he's as good as gold now.

"I've always had an opinion of this horse and I'm confident he will win more races this time in and it's so good to see him doing what I've always believed he could."
