Tom Dabernig already has a Warrnambool Cup victory under the belt, but now as a local would like to add one in his own right.

Furrion gave Dabernig, along with David and Ben Hayes, their sole victory in the Listed race in 2019.

Angel Rock will line up for Dabernig on Thursday over 2350m looking to add the Warrnambool Cup to her win in the Terang Cup (2150m) on April 10.

It has been a meteoric rise in the ratings for Angel Rock who commenced her campaign with a win in a benchmark 58 at Geelong in November.

Wins have followed at Warrnambool, The Valley and Terang while Angel Rock has also been placed at Caulfield and Flemington.

One of those placings was behind the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained Yonce with the training partnership having the $1.85 favourite Grandslam in Thursday's race.

Angel Rock is a $23 chance with TAB

"She's won the Terang Cup which in the past has not been a bad guide for the Warrnambool Cup," Dabernig said.

"She's had a lovely campaign all the way through and has got that residual fitness behind her.

"I'm not sure about her up against a horse like Grandslam, and this is clearly her toughest test, and she's got the outside gate.

"But by that stage they might all be getting off the fence and it might not be a disadvantage.

"She's got soft track form but if it got to the heavy, I'm not sure what she would be like on that."

Dabernig said Angel Rock had caught him by surprise as the mare progressed further into her campaign.

He said the start of the campaign was where he thought Angel Rock was suited.

"She got up to winning at The Valley and we thought that was a good achievement and then she ran well at Flemington and then won again at Terang," Dabernig said.

"She's just a classic example of a mare that's in form and is able to hold it."
