Trainer Matthew Dunn hopes a Canterbury win is just the beginning for a promising two-year-old.

Matthew Dunn has classic aspirations for juvenile filly Veandechance, who has overcome a pre-race hiccup to post her maiden victory at Canterbury. 

The two-year-old not only lost a shoe on the way to the starting stalls and had to be replated behind the gates, but also hurt part of her hoof in the process. 

"She had a few dramas before the race, she took a bit of her heel off when she pulled her shoe off," winning jockey Nash Rawiller said. 

"It would have still been stinging a bit, it's a bit like taking your fingernail off. 

"She is very adaptable and she got through it." 

Tucking in behind the speed in Wednesday's Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1250m), Veandechance angled off the fence in the straight and chased down leader Better Judgement to surge to victory, with Twelve Hours finishing resolutely late to split the pair. 

Dunn was thrilled to see the daughter of Golden Slipper winner Vancouver get a win on the board and predicted it would not be her last. 

"The most exciting part about her is she's not furnished yet and she has got lots of improvement left," Dunn said. 

"We bought her as an Oaks filly. That was the whole plan with her and eventually, hopefully she will stretch out. 

"She has got the right attitude, she's got the right action to get to those distances and she has got the right pedigree."
